อิทธิพลสถาปัตยกรรมตะวันตกระหว่าง พ.ศ. 2150-2250 (ค.ศ. 1607-1707)

Abstract

วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีจุดมุ่งหมาย เพื่อศึกษารูปแบบอิทธิพลสถาปัตยกรรมตะวันตกที่เข้ามาสู่กรุงศรีอยุธยาในช่วงคริสต์ศตวรรษที่ 17 โดยใช้หลักฐานทางเอกสารและทางโบราณคดี สถาปัตยกรรมเหล่านี้นอกจากจะเป็นสิ่งก่อสร้างเพื่อประโยชน์สำหรับเป็นที่พักอาศัยหรือประกอบกิจกรรมทางศาสนาแล้ว ยังสะท้อนให้เห็นถึงอิทธิพลที่ได้รับมาจากแหล่งวัฒนธรรมอื่น ๆ ซึ่งจะเกี่ยวข้องสัมพันธ์กับเหตุการณ์ในประวัติศาสตร์ด้วย เราได้พบร่องรอยหลักฐานทางโบราณคดีเกี่ยวกับอิทธิพลสถาปัตยกรรมตะวันตกเป็นจำนวนมากในช่วงสมัยสมเด็จพระนารายณ์มหาราชลงมา โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในจังหวัดพระนครศรีอยุธยา และจังหวัดลพบุรี ซึ่งการศึกษาทางประวัติศาสตร์ศิลปะ เราอาจถือได้ว่าเป็นการเปลี่ยนแปลงรูปแบบของสถาปัตยกรรมครั้งใหญ่จนบางท่านถึงกับเรียกว่าศิลปกรรมสมัยพระนารายณ์ฯ การเปลี่ยนแปลงนี้เกิดขึ้นเพราะเราได้มีการติดต่อทางสัมพันธไมตรีกับนานาประเทศ โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งประเทศตะวันตกซึ่งเป็นผู้นำเอาศิลปกรรมและเทคโนโลยี่สมัยใหม่มาสู่ประเทศไทย ข้อมูลที่ได้จากการศึกษาคือ อิทธิพลสถานปัตยกรรมตะวันตกได้เข้ามาสู่ประเทศไทยตั้งแต่ตอนกลางคริสตศตวรรษที่ 16 แต่ยังคงมีรูปแบบเป็นสถาปัตยกรรมตะวันตกอย่างแท้จริงที่สร้างขึ้นในคริสตศาสนาโดยชาวตะวันตกเอง และต่อมาได้ส่งอิทธิพลสู่สถาปัตยกรรมไทยจนเกิดมีรูปแบบผสมผสานกันขึ้นเป็นเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตัว ซึ่งได้รับความนิยมสูงสุดในสมัยสมเด็จพระนารายณ์มหาราชและค่อยเสื่อมความนิยมลงไปจนถึงสมัยอยุธยาตอนปลาย

This thesis is intended to be a study on “The Influence of Western Architecture Found During the 17th Century A.D. in the Kingdom of Ayudhthya.” This study is based on literary and archaeology evidence. This type of architecture did not only influence Ayudhthya’s architectural temples and building designs but also influence other great civilizations of this historical period. A lot of evidence of western architecture can be found during the reign of King Narai The Great and also during later kings of Ayudhthya. This is especially true when studying the architectural designs in Ayudhthya and Lopburi province. When studying the architecture and art history of this era, it is fair enough to say that the architecture of the Ayudhthya period can be considered to be a great evolutionary phenomena. Indeed, historian often refer to the Ayudhthaya period as “King Narai Art Period” King Narai’s foreign policy was instrumental in developing new ties between Thailand and other foreign countries of the time. Hence, new technology and modern art was also brought into Thailand. With the information gathered of this resource project we can conclude that although the western architecture which came to Thailand during the 16th century A.D., was in its purest western form. There was gradual unique blend of Thai western architertural design. This unique and form of architecture came alive and flourished during the reign of King Narai The Great before fading out at the end of the Ayudhthya era.
