ปัจจัยที่มีผลกระทบต่อความสามารถในการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษของนักเรียนประถมศึกษา

Abstract

งานการศึกษาค้นคว้าอิสระนี้เป็นงานวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพมีวัตถุประสงค์ 2 ประการคือ เพื่อศึกษาปัจจัยที่มีผลกระทบต่อความสามารถในการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษของนักเรียนประถมศึกษา และเพื่อศึกษาลักษณะของบทเรียนที่มีผลต่อความเข้าใจในการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษ กลุ่มตัวอย่างคือ นักเรียนชั้นประถมศึกษาปีที่ 6 โรงเรียนนิมมานรดี เขตภาษีเจริญ กรุงเทพมหานคร จำนวนทั้งสิ้น 12 คน ในภาคเรียนที่ 2 ปีการศึกษา 2553 การคัดเลือกกลุ่มตัวอย่างในงานวิจัยใช้วิธีการคัดเลือกแบบเจาะจง โดยแบ่งนักเรียนเป็น กลุ่มเก่ง และกลุ่มอ่อน กลุ่มละ 6 คน ซึ่งใช้คะแนนสอบวิชาภาษาอังกฤษเป็นเกณฑ์ เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยประกอบด้วย บทอ่านภาษาอังกฤษ จำนวน 6 เรื่อง ซึ่งมีการเรียนการสอนในระหว่างการวิจัย และคำถามสัมภาษณ์นักเรียน ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ปัจจัยที่มีผลกระทบต่อความสามารถในการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษของนักเรียนประถมศึกษาได้แก่ ระดับความยากง่ายของบทอ่าน การลำดับเรื่องราวในบทอ่าน ความรู้พื้นฐานหรือประสบการณ์ในเรื่องที่เรียน ความสนใจในเรื่องที่เรียน และความวิตกกังวลของนักเรียน ส่วนลักษณะบทเรียนที่มีผลต่อความเข้าใจในการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษ ได้แก่ บทเรียนที่ทันสมัย น่าสนใจ มีประโยชน์ และตรงความต้องการของผู้เรียน

This independent study used a qualitative research methodology. It had two purposes : to study the factors affecting English reading ability of Thai primary school students and, secondly, to study the English reading lessons that affected students’ reading comprehension. The participants consisted of 12 students in prathom 6 from Wat Nimmanoradee School, Phasichareon District, and Bangkok. They were studying in their second semester of the academic year 2010. The participants were purposively selected and grouped into two groups based on their English performance. There were six students in a good performance group and another six students in a weak performance group. The instruments used in this study were six English reading lessons, taught during this independent study, and the individual interviews. Findings from the interviews revealed that the factors affecting English reading ability of primary students were the levels of difficulty of the lessons, sequencing of the lessons, students’ background knowledge or experiences, students’ interests and students’ anxiety. The English reading lessons that seemed to promote students’ English reading comprehension were up-to-date lesson contents, interesting lessons, useful lessons, and lessons that corresponded to the students’ needs.
